The Potential of Kindness
We are currently undertaking a project in Auroville exploring the Potential of Kindness.
The purpose of the project is to explore the impact different kindness activities have on participants (i.e. their well-being, empathy, self-compassion, perspective taking). We are especially curious to understand how interventions which have been 'proven' through research elsewhere in the world work in such a culturallly diverse community.

As part of this project we have been capturing kindness stories from randomly selected community members - asking what kindess means to them; what stories they have of giving, receiving and witnessing kindness; and what might prevent them from giving or receiving kindness.

We hope that by capturing and sharing these Aurovilians' stories on kindness, we can create further ripples of connection, empathy and kindness in the wider community and beyond. We also hope to discover and share a variety of perspectives and wisdom to support inner reflection on the true nature of kindness - its potential and our blockages towards it.

Excerpts from these conversations will be shared with the community later in the year - both as a booklet and online. The team will also share key findings from both their desk based and primary research.

Alongside the stories the team are hosting a number of kindness events across 2025. These will include kindness films, a Random Acts of Kindness challenge, a Loving Kindness meditation, and Kindness Sharing Circles. If you would like to find out more about these you can join our whatsapp group

This project is being undertaken by Helen with support from Nikethana and it is kindly funded by Stichting De Zaaier.

Once we have completed the research and captured the stories we will be sharing them here for all to enjoy!

We hope that this project spreads ripples of kindness through Auroville and beyond.
